A True Son Of The soil

Originally luo people were the most orderly people in terms of how they planned their things, from childhood to adulthood. Take for example when a family got a baby boy...they were considered blessed since a "wouyi" was considered "Siro"and was expected to be successful to take care of the parents at old age.

The upbringing of the child was given the first priority, the child was to be taught the norms of the community, the dos and the don'ts .The boy was encouraged to be brave and strong enough to take care of the family properties.

At the age of 12 initiation was done  by removal of 6 lower teeth, and no tears was to be seen as a sign of bravery and the removal of the teeth was also for identification. After initiation the boy was considered old enough to perform some of the duties of a man but with strict adherence to the ethics.

As a teenage man a Luo man was known to be one who likes good life, likes good things and most of the times outstanding among the cohorts especially if the family is bordering a given tribe. They were pole of "nyadhi"as they called it.

They were known to have in possession of almost  the beautiful queen in the community since the other men from other tribes could not match their masculinity, physique handsomesnes, boldness and most importantly the purchasing power.

When there were some funeral around after the burial was done ,the boys had night Discos where they were showing off their dancing styles to the cool soothing and well planned local music called ohangla or Luo Rhumba... this was the best opportunity to meet with the damsels they have always wanted and give them a treat after some convincing lines of promises which most of the times are not met...are only meant for wining hearts.

However the young men were not allowed to pass a certain age without getting married. This was to bring decency to the family and to continue with the lineage. If it came to the attention of the kinsmen that a certain man was delaying commonly known as "woudho" an arrangement was quickly done by the auntie in search for a good wife so that their brother's son not to die 'Misumba'...........to be continued
